Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation planned to develop Ghorasal Polash Urea Fertilizer Project, in Palash Upazila, Narsingdi, Bangladesh. The project covered the construction of a urea plant with a capacity of 2800 t/d urea, 1600 t/d ammonia and some other supporting facilities. Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency was the EIA consultant. The consortium of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and China National Chemical Engineering Seventh Construction Co Ltd was the EPC contractor of the project. The project involved the construction and operation of a new natural gas-based urea fertilizer plant with a capacity of 2,800 tons per day (tpd).
The major components of the proposed Project are:
(i) An ammonia plant.
(ii) An urea melt plant.
(iii) An urea granulation plant.
(iv) A water treatment plant.
(v) A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).
(vi) A carbon dioxide (CO2) recovery plant.
(vii) A jetty.
In addition, there will be maintenance workshops and a power plant consisting of two steam turbine generators (STG) with a capacity of 32 MW each and a gas engine generator unit with a capacity of 9 MW as well as their auxiliaries and ancillaries.
